Monster color

I did this doodle in my sketchbook the other day and I wanted to play with different color possibilities. Here's the experiment!

Drug of Choice

Some people snort cocaine, I drink chai tea. Each morning, I stupidly dish out $3.57 for a tall, extra strong, super hot soy chai at Starbucks. It's funny to think how much money I spend on tea (actually no it's not). The good news is that caffeine sparks my imagination and creativity. In the end, my addiction helps more than it hurts...spoken like a true addict!

Totem Pole

A couple years back, I was in a funky totem pole drawing stage. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I stopped drawing them after 9/11...strange. Anyways, a few weeks ago while riding on a train to NYC, I doodled this totem pole. I had some free time tonight, so I decided to add some color. POOF! Here's the before and after versions:

PSA is D-O-N-E

After a couple months of work, the global warming PSA is finally done! I worked with a great crew of peeps who helped make the spot look fantastic. Unfortunately, I can't post it online until the week before the Animation Block Party Festival (July 27th). Stay tuned... I promise it will be up on my website in a few weeks.

It Ain't Easy...

Luckily, I haven't fallen into a creative slump in many, many months, but lately, I have been overwhelmed by my own need to create. I work at an animation studio and when I return home, all I want to do is imagine, draw, write, and create. The dilemma every artist must face is how to make a living while being able to focus on their own artwork. I am trying to push my own work to a new place, but by the end of the day, I'm often too pooped to produce great work. I'm forced to focus on one project at a time, and with all the other thoughts and ideas running through my head, I'm often left with only a headache.

In Process...

A friend and I have been in the process of developing a variety show for kids. The concept has been revised a couple times, and this is one of the original pitch pages. I really have nothing else to say about this...Enjoy!

Making Milk Squirt Out of Your Kids Nose!

On Tuesday night, I trekked down to NYC for a panel discussion about children's comedy writing. The discussion was hosted by the mega-talented Mo Willems. The chat included 4 fantastic writers who gave their two-cents about working in children's media and making kids laugh. Needless to say, the event was well worth the twelve dollars and the train ride down. I took some notes during the talk and here they are...I hope this is helpful to others who couldn't make it.

Doodle Sunday

I finally had some free time today and doodled for a couple hours. Here's a doodle that now lives inside my sketchbook.

Global Warming is still HOT.

I've been hard at work on the Global warming PSA...I finished all the character design and animation this week. My friend Evan Sussman is compositing the animation as you read this, and the spot should be done in a week or two. I whipped up this style test in Photoshop. Stay tuned for more!

DIRK for MVP

Between work, the global warming PSA, and life, I haven't had much time to draw. Last week at work we were given an optional assignment to draw hoopster Dirk Nowitzki. I doodled these two verions during my lunch break.

Cold Hard Flash

My video artist statement is featured today on the ultra-great animation blog, Cold Hard Flash. The video was created by Evan Sussman and I provided the characters and animation.

After a long and brutally cold New England winter, spring is finally here!!!
